Before each Speaker Ignite workshop begins, I think about one of the biggest myths about public speaking: that great speakers are born, not made.
Over the years, delegates have helped me challenge this belief again and again.
One participant shared:
“One meaningful thing that I have discovered — it is not like people are born speakers. It is a skill that you can learn over time and everyone can do it.”
Another reflected:
“I discovered that speaking is a skill that you can hone and perfect.”

My accounting background taught me something valuable: confidence grows when people have frameworks they can trust.
Many delegates arrive believing they “don’t know what to say.” But often, they simply don’t yet have a way to organise their thinking.

“Before I was scared to speak because I did not know what to say. But now I learnt how to package what I want to say and therefore I am not afraid to speak.”

That is what structure does — it transforms speaking from something intimidating into something achievable.
Before each workshop begins, I know this shift will happen again. Someone will realise that communication is not about talent.
It is about clarity, process, and practice.
