One Impromptu Talk At A Time
An impromptu speech is given with little or no preparation, yet almost always with some advance knowledge on the topic. This is sometimes referred to as “off the cuff” or “spur of the moment,” or the “art of the informal remarks”. It can be quite daunting to deliver an impromptu talk; and it does not matter if you are standing up in front of a crowd or in a casual meeting – it requires skill to speak for a few minutes without preparation, even for the most seasoned speakers.
- You are engaged in some form of impromptu talk more often than you realise it! Consider the manager that asks you for a quick update on your portfolio when you bump into each other in the hallway, OR
- the random phone call that a prospective customer makes asking you a technical question on your product or service, OR
- the business question that you are asked at a casual social event.
