When I hosted the first public Speaker Ignite programme, only three delegates attended.
Some trainers might worry about a small group.
But what unfolded over those few days reminded me of something powerful: transformation is never measured by numbers — it is measured by breakthroughs.
Each delegate arrived with a different relationship with public speaking.
One came with years of technical expertise but hesitation about speaking to senior executives. Another had studied public speaking theory but still felt uncertain about how to apply it in real situations.
And one walked into the room quietly describing herself as “shy, timid and introverted.”
What they all shared was a desire to find their voice.
The first turning point came during the session on the psychology of speaking. Public speaking anxiety often has little to do with speaking itself and far more to do with how we interpret fear.
As one delegate shared:
“The psychological aspect was the turning point for me. I had to embrace my fear and accept it as a privilege.”
— Zarina Cassim, Financial Manager
That shift changes everything. When fear is no longer the enemy, confidence can start to grow.
Another breakthrough emerged when delegates began applying practical speaking frameworks. Many professionals believe it takes years to become a confident speaker. What they discovered was something different: with the right structure, speaking becomes far more accessible.

“This course has demystified public speaking. Even if you are an introvert, you can use these tools to empower yourself and make yourself confident.”
— Sashen Singh, Senior Manager: Sustainability
Throughout the programme, we practised impromptu speaking, storytelling frameworks, voice modulation, and stage presence. Each delegate committed to making small 2% shifts — small changes that create significant momentum over time.
By the final day, something remarkable happened.
One delegate had already applied the techniques in a meeting with senior executives and received positive feedback.
“I used the techniques to deliver a motivation to executives at my company — and it went extremely well.”
— Deon Naidoo, Head of Reporting
These are the moments that remind me why Speaker Ignite exists.
Not just to teach speaking.
But to help professionals step forward, own their voice, and influence the rooms they walk into.
